Reformation Hope E-Report
February 2018

Boy at Ball gameA Bright and Busy Time
for Ministry in Haiti

With this new year also come many opportunities for ministry in Haiti. As our faithful mission partners in this kingdom work, we want to keep you up to date on the latest news from the Haiti mission. This February newsletter features some good news regarding the current and future projects for 2018 and how you can partner with us to achieve our shared vision for Haiti.

Jacmel Multi-use Church and School Construction Project

This year our plans call for the beginning of construction of the multi-use facility for the congregation in Jacmel, on the south coast of Haiti. This is a key strategic location for expanding our mission, as Jacmel remains a very powerful and influential Voodoo center. Reformation Hope, in consultation with Souls Winning Ministries in Haiti, is finalizing a building plan and cost estimate for this project, which will be publicly released very soon. We already know that construction will top $500,000. However, we remain convinced that this investment will give our Haitian partners in Jacmel a truly multi-purpose facility, functioning as a church, school, pastor's family residence, and a hosting location for medical mission outreaches.

How you can help: We are seeking donor commitments prior to beginning construction. And once we reach the first $50,000, we can break ground and conduct the site excavation, as well as some construction of the wall with its gate along the main highway. We also covet your prayers for this project and its safe completion for the blessing of the congregation in Jacmel and for Christ's kingdom.

Rev. Jean Paul Acquires Newer, Safer SUV

Jean's SUVFor the past year, we have been praying that the funds would be available soon to replace Pastor Paul's aging SUV. The vehicle was having great difficulty making the long, winding, and very mountainous trips to Jacmel. This was a concern for Jean's safety, as well as the safe travel of our mission teams, which now often include ministering in Jacmel while in Haiti. Thanks to some generous giving in January, Reformation Hope was able to assist Rev. Paul in acquiring a 2015 Toyota Prada SUV with some 69,000 miles. This vehicle is similar to a Toyota 4-Runner, but built for Haiti's difficult traveling conditions. We give thanks to God for a more reliable and much safer vehicle for Jean and for our many visiting mission teams.

How you can help: Jean would like to have some extensive work done on his older Nissan SUV, to make it suitable for continued service for teams or his mission staff for shorter trips/travel. If you would like to donate toward the $3,000 or so estimated to fully refurbish the engine and brakes, as well as for other needed maintenance, you can make a contribution through our PayPal link.

Possible Addition of Medical Missionary to Our La Plaine Clinic

This month, a missionary doctor and his wife, recently returned from working in Uganda, visited our medical clinic in La Plaine, and also traveled to Gonaïves in the north, with a view to possible medical mission in Haiti with both missions. The doctor would be based at the Souls Winning clinic in La Plaine, but also take monthly trips to conduct remote medical care in Gonaïves, assisting Esaie Etienne in his ministry as well. Please be in prayer for God to guide and direct this doctor and his family as to where He would have them to serve.

How you can help: Besides praying, our medical clinic benefits greatly from short-term medical mission team visits from the United States. If your church or presbytery has a group of medical professionals interested in medical mission in Haiti please contact us for details on serving at our clinic in La Plaine, as well as with remote clinics in the country.

Other Brief Updates

Three high school graduates studying in the Dominican Republic: Our three orphans who have graduated from high school, Kimberly, Seker, and Buffalo, are now in the Dominican Republic, studying Spanish and English and attending university. They recently came back to Haiti in order to take the Haiti national exams, and they all passed.

The master's students and plans for a new bachelor's level class at the Bible college: Three of our bachelor degree Bible college students are now studying for master's degrees and intend to eventually teach the lower level courses in the Bible college in La Plaine. Also, Reformation Hope is applying for a grant in order to fund a new class of twenty Bible college students for the bachelor's degree program. We hope to have the new class begin by the fall of this year.

Formation of a denomination in Haiti: Meetings continue for the training and development of church leaders this year, with a plan to launch a new denomination of churches by the end of this year. The next retreat and training will take place in La Plaine on March 22 and 23.

New Joy basketball court gets expanded use: The basketball court that many of you helped us build at New Joy House is seeing more action besides use by the children. Turns out the court is a big hit with teams in the local community. The Souls Winning basketball team will be hosting a community tournament at the end of March involving several area teams.
